What cookies are

Cookies are small text files that a website saves on your device when you visit. They let a site remember information, such as your choices, and can help the site owner and advertisers understand how the site is used. Similar technologies, such as local storage and pixels, work in comparable ways and are covered by this policy too.

How we use cookies

TextBench Lab keeps cookies to a minimum. The tools themselves run in your browser and do not need cookies to process your text. The site has three categories of storage:

  • Necessary: the site saves your cookie choice in your browser's local storage (key tt_consent). It is not a cookie, it never leaves your device and it does not need consent. It is always on. Cloudflare, which delivers the site, may also set a strictly necessary security cookie (such as __cf_bm) to tell people from automated bots.
  • Analytics: Google Analytics 4 is not active at the time of writing. If we enable it, it will be loaded only after you consent to analytics and it will set cookies such as _ga.
  • Advertising: ads are not shown at the time of writing. When Google AdSense is enabled, it and its partners will set cookies to show ads and to measure and personalize them, and only after you consent to advertising.

Third-party cookies and Google

Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user's prior visits to this website and other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to users based on their visit to this site and/or other sites on the Internet.

We do not control third-party cookies. Each provider decides what its cookies do and how long they last, under its own policies. You can opt out of personalized advertising through Google Ads Settings (https://adssettings.google.com) or through www.aboutads.info.

Managing cookies in your browser

You can also control cookies through your browser settings. Most browsers let you see which cookies are stored, delete them, block third-party cookies or block all cookies. The steps differ between browsers, so check the help section of the browser you use. If you block all cookies, some features of websites, including ours, may not work as expected.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Cookie Policy when our use of cookies changes, for example when analytics or ads are switched on. The "Last updated" date shows the latest revision.
